Mission Statement from the Founder:

This site is here to provide a low cost, more laid back, and easy going alternative to all of those big Catholic singles and social sites out there. We are committed to providing you a way to meet whoever you are looking for in an atmosphere that emphasizes public and private interactions as opposed to the endless profile searches that come with other sites. In my experience, the best way to get to know someone is to observe how they interact with others as well as you. That is why the first thing that went up when this site started was a forum system. Eventually, the site will be enhanced with the typical member search and match features that you can find on any other site, but the emphasis will always center around public interaction via the forums. A secondary emphasis will be placed on private interactions designed to allow you to get to know the person you are talking with in ways other than private emails. This secondary interaction type is still in the brainstorming process, and I encourage all members new and old to share your input on this matter. It will include a chat feature, but there will be more to it. Finally, there is the private messaging capabilities that are already in place. It is the policy of this site to NOT MONITOR PRIVATE MESSAGES (the forum software won't even allow me to). Which means if you want to share private contact information, please do so at your own risk.

It is my hope that the number of users on this site grows to the point that I can eventually require a paid-membership to use the site. I am determined to keep the cost of membership low. I'm not planning on relying on this site as a primary income source, but there are expenses that I am currently paying out of pocket, which will only grow as the site requires more maintenance than I can provide alone. Why not support the site strictly on ads? Again, in my experience, the social sites that are free tend to attract persons that I would prefer to keep off of this site. I feel that in order to keep the quality of users on the site respectable, a paid-membership is necessary. I will not, however, retroactively start charging members. If you signed up for a free site, the site will remain free to you.

Finally, but the most important, this is a website that is rooted in the Catholic Church. I will never discriminate against non-Catholics joining this site - we WANT you here. However, in order to maintain the laid-back nature of this site, all members are called to respect each other, regardless of political and religious views, and regardless of age, social status, position in life, etc. Above all, we are called to love the sinners as well as the saints. There is a forum dedicated to the sinners and those going through tough times. It is called the public confessional. I don't expect it to get much use, but if someone posts in that room looking for support, we, as a community, are called to love them. This same principle applies to every post on this site.

Notice on the map that the public confessional is set for the bartender to hear it. As corny as this might sound, Christ is the bartender of this site. What happens on this site, what is said on this site, as anything we do in life, is done in the presence of our Lord.

Please enjoy your stay at the Catholic Tavern, make yourself at home, and don't be a stranger. You may contact me via private message, email, or instant messenger if you have comments or questions. As the "tavern keeper" I am always available to you.

At your service,
Davon
